Sharm El Sheikh, also known as "City of Peace," hosts several International Peace Conferences. It is commonly referred to as "Sharm" and written as "Sharm el-Cheikh" or "Sharm el-Sheik."

Sharm El Sheikh, a beautiful city located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula in South Sinai Governorate, is a popular tourist destination and administrative hub of Egypt's South Sinai Governorate. The city boasts a population of approximately 73,000 as of 2023 and is home to several smaller coastal towns, including Dahab and Nuweiba, as well as the mountainous interior, St. Catherine and Mount Sinai. In addition to its thriving tourism industry, Sharm El Sheikh is also renowned for hosting numerous international conferences and diplomatic meetings. It is worth noting that Sharm El Sheikh is one of the prominent Asian cities of Egypt.

Geography and history

Sharm El Sheikh is a thriving international tourist destination with a rich history as a fishing village turned port and naval base. Despite past conflicts and tragic events in 2005, the city continues to attract visitors due to its strategic location, natural beauty, and environmental zoning laws. The Gulf of Aqaba has been divided into zones, with Sharm El Sheikh subdivided into five centers. The city designation as The City of Peace in 1982 under former President Hosni Mubarak led to its development by Egyptian and global investors. Today, it forms a metropolitan area with neighboring districts. The off-shore gun emplacements at Ras Nasrani opposite Tiran Island are now a popular diving spot.
