The experience

The desert starts a short drive inland from Hurghada and changes quickly: gravel flats, low ridges and a horizon that opens out as soon as the coast is behind you.

The afternoon combines a guided quad bike run over the flats with a short camel ride, and a stop at a Bedouin settlement where tea is made over a fire. Timing is built around the late-afternoon light, when the heat drops and the ridges take on colour.

Helmets and a briefing are provided for the quad section, and the route is guided throughout. Closed shoes and something to cover your face against the dust are worth bringing.
