The experience

The balloon launches before sunrise on the west bank, and that is what makes this version different: from the basket the Valley of the Kings, the Ramesseum and Hatshepsut's terraces read as one connected landscape in a way they never do from the ground. Seeing them on foot afterwards changes where they sit in your head.

The day continues with a private guide through the west bank sites, and finishes with a felucca on the Nile - the traditional sail that is the right speed for the end of a long day. Balloon flights depend entirely on wind and visibility and are cancelled by the operator when conditions are wrong; that is a safety decision, not an inconvenience. Entrance fees are collected locally.
