The experience

The Sinai desert behind Sharm is harder-edged than the mainland coast: rock rather than sand, with mountains close in and wadis cutting between them.

The run is guided throughout on gravel tracks, with a briefing and helmet before you start. No experience is needed; the pace is set by the group.

The route includes a stop at a Bedouin settlement for tea. It runs in the late afternoon, when the heat has dropped and the rock takes on colour. Closed shoes and a face covering against dust are worth bringing.
